A little plein air...

from the woods, before the rain
The leaf show is on in a big way at this moment in my area. This is THE week. I found a section of maple trees and a few moments to sneak out. About 30 minutes before the big wind moved rain in from the northwest. After weeks of summer-like temperatures, the change to fall was underway.
Life has been a sea-change this year. A tide ebbing and flowing and there is no human power that beats a tide. You just hang on, sometimes able to go with the flow, sometimes fighting against drowning. It's been a year like that.
This little painting is a stop point, to capture some of the fleeting color before the leaves blow down. It's also an experiment in a medium that's new to me. A little like encaustic (beeswax based painting) but not requiring tools to heat and melt. This is a wax-based paint called "Ceracolor". Who knew? They are fascinating to work in. More on that as I get to know the medium better.
For this moment, just a quick hello and a sketch from the woods. Hope you are finding moments to enjoy autumn.
